Six years ago as the Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, I was told by the Government Roads Minister that the Lower Thames Crossing congestion problems would be solved by building another bridge at Dartford. This would have replaced the old small bore tunnel used by traffic travelling from Kent to Essex. Had the decision been taken in 2012, another 4 lane bridge would have been built by now - for a third of the cost. Instead the congestion will now continue at Dartford for another decade and probably much longer and acres of countryside at Gravesham East will be destroyed forever.
