The Chalk/Denton demarcation stone has been removed in order to facilitate recent works at the Lion Roundabout. We would like it restored.

The ancient demarcation stone has stood in situ in its correct position since the late 18th Century. However it was removed to a safe place while Kent Highways performed their modernisation work at the Lion Roundabout on the A226 Rochester Road, Gravesend. Subsequently the stone has been forgotten about, until our local historian Christoph Bull noticed its absence and alerted us to help him intervene.
I recently attended the site with Christoph (1st on the left) and a Kent Highways officer, in order to help remedy the situation.
Kent Highways are questioning whether it can be replaced in the correct position as they think it may protrude and become a safety hazard. I advised Christoph to raise the issue with 'Historic England', he is expecting a quick reply and I will report back when a resolution is found. Hopefully with a photo of the stone back in its rightful and safe place in due course!
