Volunteers from Gravesham Sports Trust were busy this Sunday tidying up their pitch ready for winter.
By Aaron Elliott, candidate for Riverview in the 2019 Local Elections.
This weekend they received confirmation of an additional £39,000 secured from Veolia Environmental Trust towards their much needed pitch replacement. This with the other secured funding means they have moved a step close to a potential new pitch in the next year or so. The pitch, based at Gravesend Rugby Club, is the only all-weather surface of its kind in the borough of Gravesham.
This news comes off the back of the very hard work many volunteers have been doing in raising funds these past few years. From race nights and quiz's to big fundraisers like the London to Brighton cycle ride and Gung-Ho!.
The London to Brighton fundraiser was an idea introduced and conceived by myself and was GST's largest single fundraiser bringing in around £6250!
In 2019 I am putting plans in place to take a team of fundraisers on the 3-peaks UK 24-hour winter challenge which would see us climb the highest peaks in each of England, Scotland and Wales. If you might be interested in taking part with this, please drop me a message at [email protected].
Thank you.
